Now that the sun exists again and summer is right around the corner, we’re all starting to get the travel itch. After a longgg winter, one of the best ways to celebrate is to take a little trip to enjoy the nice weather. If you’re like a lot of us (hello, 20-something and poor), then you’re probably looking for some cheap vacay options. Lucky for you, we’ve come up with the perfect plan!

What are the two most expensive parts to a trip?

1) Getting there
2) Surviving there

That’s it.

If all your craving is the adventure, then you may care more about it actually happening than the nitty gritty of how it happens. I’m looking at you, girl who has $300 in your bank account!

One of the WORST feelings is a conversation that goes a little like this:

“Hey! (friend from high school who is super fun and that you haven’t seen in a long time) Wouldn’t it be soooo fun to go on a trip Italy together?”

“Um, YES, count me in!!”

*Looks at flights, hotels, and food expenses. Realizes the trip would be well over $2,000. Resign yourself to never leaving the country. Ever.*

Because we’re bound and determined for that to NOT happen to you, we’ve put together a few tips and tricks so that you’ll be able to travel to a Queen’s vacation on a pauper’s budget.

Reduced trip price #1:

Scott’s Cheap Flights

Ever heard of ‘em? Scott’s Cheap Flights is a free email subscription that notifies you when google flights have mistaken airfares. They only last 1-2 days, but you can get 50-70% off of international flights! Here are the latest travel deals we’ve seen: Colombia ($200/$300), Germany/ Austria ($400), Australia ($600) Puerto Rico ($200), Brussels ($300), Lima/Quito ($200/$300). One of the most stressful things is looking at the *beautiful* cheap flight, but thinking in the back of your mind; what if tomorrow, there’s an even BETTER deal? The fun thing about Scott’s Cheap Flights is they find something for you every other day. It makes you feel like the world is at your fingertips and you don’t have to be afraid to dream big! One helpful way to narrow down your search and make your purchase less random is to pick out the time frame for you trip ahead of time!

So, SCORE, you’ve got yourself a cheap flight to a gorgeous and culturally-rich country, but an Airbnb in Germany is actually more expensive then you realized. So what now!?

Reduced trip price #2:

Wwoof

This stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Wwoofing is great if you are wanting to:

a) Become fully immersed in the culture
b) Volunteer and give back
c) Have a free place to stay and eat

Wwoof has farms all around the world that you can help out at. Typically, farms require that you work 4-6 hours a day, and then you get the rest of the time to yourself. All you need to do is choose your destination, find a wwoof group, find a host, and find your way there (hey, Scott!). This is a super fun way to create lasting relationships and see the country in a special way.
