TOP 5 HEALTHY AND EASY SNACKS FOR THE WORK-WEEK

fuel Dec 16, 2020

Everyone knows the dreaded feeling of anticipation the night before Monday morning. The Sunday Scaries are no fun to deal with, but one thing that helps is knowing you are ready for the week with yummy snacks prepared.

Have you ever gone through a workday and realized you’ve eaten only one bite of breakfast and two bites of lunch? Some days get so busy, that it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself along the way. One super easy way to make sure you are taking care of yourself is making sure you have quick and easy snacks throughout the day. This keeps your tummy full and your mind clear!

1. Grapefruit Jars

This is our all time favorite snack. Grapefruit is packed full of Vitamin C and instantly makes us feel better all around. Every Sunday (or whenever you grocery shop), buy a bag of grapefruits, cut them up, and put them in glass jars. You can then throw the jars straight into your work bag Monday morning for a mid-morning or afternoon snack!

2. Yogurt

You can go the cheap route here and buy a tub of plain yogurt every week to mix in with your favorite jam, berries, and sweetener (like honey, maple syrup, molasses). If you would rather save time, buy the individual yogurt containers at the store. Pairing your yogurt with different flavors and sweeteners is the advantage of buying plain yogurt… that way you can mix up your favorite flavors and toppings! This is an easy and filling snack to help with that after-lunch-slump!

3. Banana and Berry Jars

Like a grapefruit jar, making a jar of mixed fruits is a simple thing to munch on throughout the day. Bananas are great to have on hand because they’re cheap, and they pair well with other fruits. We like to mix bananas with kiwi, blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries. If you have more of a sweet tooth, mix some honey in! Or, if you’re trying to be healthy, put chia seeds or granola on top.

4. Mixed Nuts

One thing we love is to make our own chex mix or trail mix. When we do it ourselves, we only put in the ingredients we love and take out all the ingredients we don’t like (looking at you, raisins!). Another great snack is the Graze Spicy Sriracha snacks. They are easy to grab, filling, and they satisfy every chip craving!

5. Peanut-Butter Protein Balls

A lot of food bloggers come up with complicated (delicious, albeit!) recipes, but for a less stressful way to snack prep, just throw together whatever ingredients sounds best (with peanut butter, always, obviously).  We highly recommend these as a granola bar replacement. Make a batch and pop them in the freezer! With peanut butter, almond butter, or any of your favorite nut butters as a base, it is super easy to throw in any ingredient that suits your fancy. Some additional ingredients to add are: coconut flakes, granola, chia seeds, honey (or any sweetener), or chocolate chips. Mix all your ingredients together, and make them into bite size balls. Tasty and filling!

We’ve found that having convenient, ready-to-go snacks on hand make at lot easier to avoid coming home to veg out on the couch with a bag of potato chips. The best way to combat the desk blues, is to get creative with the things you like. The most important piece is to recognize where you’re falling short in your health journey and why.

What’s your favorite on the go snack? We always love hearing new ideas!
